What Our Readers Say About Us
- "It snowed and it made a wonderland... This morning I got an electronic newspaper with a beautiful logo. The first newspaper of global warming. I am almost flying to the sky like a lark... we got a newborn baby of the order of the earth as a newspaper...you opened a wonder land by publishing... Congratulations!!.. A Korean old saying says 'When it snows, you will get a good news'... I got the best news today."
Pyong-Ui Roh, Korea, 02/22/2008
- "I just finished looking at the April issue of the OE. It is just fabulous. ... And I can't believe Al Gore sent you that letter. Hard work pays off."
Katherine Lukaszewicz, Frederick MD, 03/17/2008
- "Dear Iona,
Thank you so much for your kind note and congratulations on starting "The Order of the Earth" newspaper. This is such a great idea and I believe your paper will make a tremendous impact on combating the climate crisis. Again, congratulations on this wonderful accomplishment. I am confident that you will find immense success. I look forward to following your continued efforts." Sincerely,
Al Gore Nashville TN, 02/15/2008
- "When I first took a look at "The Order of the Earth" newspaper, I did a double-take. I looked at the articles - all right on target - then I looked at the address... Can this really be the same Shade Gap located only a few miles from where I've been farming for the last 38 years? Here's this publication addressing Mineral Rights, Climate Change, Natural Gas Drilling and all the other threats to Mother Earth... I promptly wrote out the largest single contribution I've made all year... as a first step in trying to thank her (Iona) for all the wonderful work she does for the rest of us and to allow her to continue slaving away at the publication and not be forced to work at a minimum-wage job to subsidize it. So, I'm writing in the hope that you will also be generous and supportive."
Michael Tabor, Fulton County, PA, 02/26/2009

- "I am writing to let you know of... a wonderful grassroots newspaper. Called "The Order of the Earth," the paper's mission is to inspire and encourage readers to think seriously, act intelligently and be peaceful, compassionate, courageous and creative... The Goal: To create a hugely successful newspaper that will report the story of people around the world working to protect their land bases, strengthen local communities and achieve 90% greenhouse gas reductions by 2030. The Dream: Humans can co-exist with Nature and, once they do, both will flourish."
Deborah McNamara, Northwest Earth Institute in a letter to Earth Institute supporters, November 2008
- "Sweet crickets!!! An awesome paper!!!! It has so many things in it that I want to read! I will spread the word around and see if there's any place that will sell it. This is exactly the kind of paper that needs to be in every store and on every newsstand. The word will get out and it will take off like a jet plane."

- "Your newsletter always looks so wonderful; wish we [Pennsylvania Association of Environmental Educators] could print in color. About the article with the picture of windmills - last week I stood in the midst of a wind-farm in a farmer's field in Kansas - 200 windmills!! The cows grazed below and didn't seem to mind. Actually the windmills made very little sound."
Ruth Roperti, Beaver Falls PA, 10/25/2008

You are a real activist for the Earth. I will ask my students to write an essay about climate. We [will] see what essays they will write."
